We are hiring a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join our mission of securing access to world’s online resources by building and operating a PKI platform with world class fundamentals that makes Entra and Azure customers the most secure and productive in the world. It powers the identity experience which is at the core of almost every Microsoft product and service from Windows to Office, from Azure to Xbox. This Hybrid Position is located at our Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location. 

Responsibilities

Lead and scale a team of 8–10 high-performing software engineers.
Hire, mentor, coach, and retain top technical talent.
Provide hands-on technical leadership in architecture, design, development, code reviews, and quality assurance.
Ensure operational excellence and live-site reliability.
Own and evolve large-scale authorization systems with a focus on security and resiliency.
Partner with Product Management to deliver short-term goals and long-term business objectives.
Drive cross-team collaboration across Microsoft partner groups.
Foster an inclusive, healthy, and high-trust team culture.
Champion Microsoft values and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
4+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable, highly available cloud services or distributed systems on platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or comparable cloud environments, with production ownership and CI/CD pipeline integration.
2+ years of experience managing software engineering teams, including responsibility for hiring, performance management, and career development.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
